Left Toronto at 1730 hrs Thursday May 10th. Decided to upgrade seats to economy plus which gave us an extra 4 inches of leg room, a great decision!! Also bought access to to KLM executive pre flight lunch also a great investment, as all food and drink and wifi included plus a very quiet comfortable lounge to await flight. We had a long bumpy flight with no sleep. Arrived at Shriphol Airport on schedule and we were off the plane, baggage collected and in taxi within 45 minutes of landing.
Arrived at Hotel Moevenpick at 0800hrs and luckily our room was ready. However we didd not sleep but rather freshened up and set off to walk around the city of Amsterdam. We spent a good portion of the day walking and enjoying the sights. Paris is called the city of Lights, Amsterdam should be called the city of bikes. Everywhere you looked people were cycling, there are dedicated cycle paths with their own set of lights on every street we walked. To give you an idea of the number of bikes imagine this people 750,000 bikes 1,200,00 almost 2 bikes for each person. We also visited the Anne Frank House and wandered around the city until 1500hrs. Early dinner then bed at 2000hrs for a long and well deserved sleep.
Photos below are of bikes parked everywhere.
